Thiripyitsaya Sky Bistro, Feel Myanmar Food- Where To Go, What To See and Where To Eat in Yangon, Myanmar (Part 1)

Yangon, also called Rangoon, is a city full of history and surprises. This former capital of Myanmar is also its largest and most important city. We were greeted by our Burmese-Australian friends at the airport, who happened to be visiting as well. I was quite impressed by Yangon International Airport, it's clean, modern and efficient. Although just like many other major cities in the world, Yangon is crowded and traffic is horrific.

Did you know that Yangon has the highest number of colonial era buildings in all of South East Asia?

We had lunch at Thiripyitsaya Sky Bistro which is located on the 20th floor of Sakura Tower with a panorama view of Yangon city. The Burmese dishes were delicious and the views amazing. It was a lovely special treat from the Hantin family. Ce Zu Beh!

The goldenly beautiful Sule Pagoda.

If you have visited temples in South East Asia, particularly Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, have you ever wondered what the various poses of the Buddha images meant? Each of them represents a day of the week in which you were born. You are to wash your Buddha and pray to him for good luck.

Donations are made through this mythological bird to the help upkeep of the pagoda complex.

The mythological bird go up until it reaches the Buddha statue.

Karaweik Palace floating on Kandawgyi Lake.

Kandawgyi Lake is one of two major lakes in Yangon and on this gorgeous lake you will find this replica of a Burmese royal barge called Karaweik Palace. Inside this stationary barge is a beautiful and luxurious restaurant. We came at sunset to appreciate its beauty and take in the lake's breathtaking views.

No visit to Myanmar is complete without a visit to the 2,500 year old Shwedagon Pagoda also known as the Great Dagon Pagoda and the Golden Pagoda. It is certainly the most famous attraction in Yangon and the most sacred Buddhist site for the Burmese people. It is covered with hundreds of gleaming gold plates and the top of the stupa is encrusted with 4531 diamonds, the largest of which is a 72 carat diamond.

On our first night in Yangon, our friends treated us at Feel Myanmar Restaurant for some mouth-watering authentic Burmese food. This place is popular with the locals and can get quite packed during peak hours. I was excited to try all the dishes my friend ordered but there was way too much food for us to finish in one seating. Burmese food is so delicious. One shouldn't leave Myanmar without trying Falooda, Balachaung and Tea Leaf Salad.

  1. Very pretty! My partner got back from a 2 and a half week trip to Myanmar last week. He really loved it but struggled with the food. He ended up coming home with a stomach bug as well :(
Looks like you had a great trip though!

    1. Thank you Bianca. Myanmar is really beautiful and people are very friendly. Bagan is my favourite and it is such an astoundingly beautiful place of worship. I love their cuisine and am already missing it. Stomach bug can happen any time any where no matter how careful you are, just bad luck. I hope that won't stop you from visiting Myanmar in the future. You'll love it there. =)
