Dinner at Heston Blumenthal + Harrods + The Liberty, London

My growing fascination with medieval history lead me to explore medieval cuisine.
Food has always been a defining element of any culture and our culinary culture reflects our history and identity.
What fascinates me even more is learning what people ate at that time and that gives us a deeper understanding
 on how they lived.

Heston Blumenthal, one of the rock stars of the culinary world explores the medieval era for recipes and magically transforms them into something different and mind-boggling. Like his most famous dish the "Meat fruit", a surprise chicken liver parfait coated in orange fruit jelly. It is velvety light but rich and exquisitely good.
Definitely the highlight of our meal.

So here it is, the magnificent medieval dishes we had during our visit.
 Eat your history.

What a joy to eat.

Heston Blumenthal's Triple Cooked Chips

Ragoo of Pig's Ear on Toast with anchovy, onions & parsley (c. 1750)
Imagine in the heyday of the English aristocracy when England was studded with luxury homes and mansions.
It was also around this time the Industrial Revolution began.

Cured Salmon with roast beetroot, monk's beard and parsley (c. 1660)
English Restoration began in 1660 when the English, Irish and Scottish monarchies were all restored under Charles II.

Slow Cooked Pork Belly with pease pudding, bacon and mint oil (c. 1920)
Not really medieval but it's the roaring twenties!

Bohemian Cake, chocolate and yuzu mousse with honey ice cream (c. 1890)
It was a long period of peace and prosperity during the Victorian era.

Marmalade Pudding with blood orange, Campari, goat's milk and lemon thyme ice cream (c. 1750)

Harrods, too famous for shopaholics to miss.

Egyptian-themed escalator

The pyramid-shaped display that holds an engagement ring Dodi purchased the day before they died as well as a wine glass smudged with lipstick from Diana's last dinner.

Oh, how I love the English cottage-style homes I see in Henry VIII's Medieval England. The display of the decorative half-timbers on Tudor homes just adds a countryside charm to it and looks quite romantic too.
The Liberty, located in that magnificent Tudor revival-styled building in Regent Street since 1875, remains the destination of choice for people who are looking for an aesthetically pleasing and unique shopping experience.
The shopping galleries are small and intimate 3 grand glass atriums linked to it is a real joy to see. Really makes one feel as if you were exploring someone’s home. This emporium is truly exquisite with a wonderful selection of branded clothes, jewelry, scarves, cosmetics, furniture, craft papers and lovely collection of Liberty fabrics.
It's really gorgeous!

Intricately designed elevators in linen fold pattern.
I remember studying this in History of Art.

Regent Street lined with beautiful buildings. :)))
