Osaka 大阪- A Foodie's Haven, Dotonbori (1 of 2)

Dotonbori is the heart and soul of Osaka. We literally spent the whole evening wandering around
the labyrinth of streets, exploring, trying different foods and kuidaore (eat-til-we-drop)!
I see delicious food everywhere and it was definitely way too much to resist!

This place is vibrant, colourful, bright and so full of energy.
No wonder it's been known as the street that never sleeps.
Many of the restaurants have gigantic plastic sculptures of food and robotic seafoods hanging above them.
Illuminated neon signboards light up the Ebisu Bridge on Dotonbori canal
which the famous Glico running man signboard can be seen

Dotonbori is  known for its culinary delights. Make sure you try Osaka's most famous dishes- okonomiyaki and takoyaki. Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake containing ingredients to your liking. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "what you like" and yaki meaning "cooked". Takoyaki is a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of a wheat flour-based batter with octopus inside.

Kani Doraku is a Japanese restaurant chain that specializes in crustaceans and other seafood.
A giant robotic crab that sits outside this restaurant's wall has now become an iconic symbol of Dotonbori.

Their takoyaki is slightly crisp on the outside but very soft and runny on the inside.

My ecstatic boy can't contain his excitement when he saw this.
Lord Stow Bakery, famous for its creamy, delicious egg tarts.
This has been my son's favourite egg tart since he was a toddler.

Matcha egg tarts!

Tayoshi
Fugu, Puffer fish or blowfish is a Japanese delicacy that is cut into thin slices and eaten raw like sashimi but can be deadly if not prepared properly.  Japanese chefs must have a licence to prepare blowfish in Japan.
